Murals at 5 Wing Goose Bay

Murals at 5 Wing Goose Bay

I’m honored to have been invited to create a couple of murals on the base here in Goose Bay. You can view them at Canex when you walk in, and the larger piece is located at the HQ building at 5 Wing Goose Bay, in the lunch room.

These murals represent the original peoples of this land—Inuit and Innu—and our deep connection to the animals and the land itself. My hope is that my work serves as a reminder to everyone working in these spaces to respect the Indigenous peoples who have called this place home for generations and to honor the land that has provided so much for us all.

The relationship between the military and Indigenous communities in Labrador has been complex and, at times, strained—a history that is layered and deeply felt. While I cannot speak to every aspect of that experience, I stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples in their efforts to protect our land, our animals, and our way of life. Through this act of indigenizing these spaces, I hope to contribute to an ongoing dialogue and encourage reflection on the importance of respecting Indigenous knowledge, wisdom, and the ongoing work to safeguard our future.
